FLAVOR DESCRIPTION

This microlot is not for the faint of heart! Notes of cranberry, grapefruit, plum, grape toms, brown sugar and lemon were noted in this exciting coffee! 

ORIGIN OF BEAN

This cooperative operates a collection of regional “factories” which allow local smallholders to contribute their coffees. This particular lot comes from the Kiamugumo Factory which was founded in the 1970s. This factory has up to 1500 contributing members who deliver coffee cherries to the factory. It is estimated that each member grows coffee on 1/8 a hectare each.  The Kiamugumo Factory has a heightened awareness of sustainability. In addition to supporting newer coffee varieties, the factory has wastewater directed into soak pits to allow water to return to the soil without polluting the local drinking source. 

BATIAN VARIETY

This microlot consists of a modern bean variety, Batian. The Batian Variety was developed in the 2010s by the Kenyan Coffee Research Institute alongside the World Coffee Research Organization.  This variety combines high yields, tolerance to coffee rust, resistance to berry diseases, and quality berries.

This microlot is currently only being offered as whole bean.
